Electrophysiology Lab

Dr. Emmanuel Nsah heads the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) department at Peninsula Cardiology Associates (PCA). He and his staff manage patients with heart rhythm problems such as ventricular tachycardia(VT), ventricular fibrillation(VF), supraventricular (SVT), bradycardia and atrial fibrillation or flutter. Dr. Nsah also treats patients who suffer with Neurally Mediated Hypotension (NMH) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome(POTS).

Electrophysiology is the study of heart rhythms. Dr. Nsah routinely performs electrophysiology (EP) testing at the hospital to assist in diagnosing a heart rhythm issue. He may then use catheter ablation, a procedure to correct the abnormal rhythm. He often finds the need to implant pacemakers, internal cardiac defibrillators(ICD), and cardiac resynchronization or biventricular(BiV) devices. These devices are used to treat specific types of heart rhythm disturbances and can even improve quality of life for our congestive heart failure(CHF) patients or patients with a cardiomyopathy.

The CRM department staff at PCA manages the care of these patients following device implant. In addition to performing in office testing of each patient’s implanted device, we offer remote follow up. We actively follow patients remotely using the Medtronic Care Link, Boston Scientific Latitude, and St. Jude Merlin. Net systems. These services allow patients to have their devices monitored from home. We also provide transtelephonic monitoring for our pacemaker patients. In office testing is now offered in both our Salisbury and Berlin offices.
