The Cardiac Risk
Reduction Clinic is the preventive arm of Peninsula Cardiology/ It's
a comprehensive program designed to proactively combat
cardiovascular disease.
The Risk Reduction Clinic is
physician directed, utilizing nurse case management with the
emphasis on patient-centered goal identification, motivation and
education. All individual plans and medical strategies are designed
to achieve multifactor risk reduction in the primary and secondary
prevention of Coronary Heart Disease
Coumadin
Clinic
The Coumadin Clinic
manages anticoagulant therapy for hundreds of patients in an eight
county area. It has been nationally recognized for excellent care.
Care is directed by our cardiologists, following nationally accepted
standards. Testing is done on- site. Each patient is seen and
assessed by a registered nurse. As well, extensive patient teaching
is done. In order to be seen in the Coumadin Clinic a physician
referral is needed. There is a Coumadin Clinic in our Salisbury
Diagnostic Testing Center.
Echocardiography
Echocardiography is
one of the most frequently used techniques for diagnosing
cardiovascular disease. An Echocardiograph records the
position and motion of the heart walls or internal structures of the
heart and neighboring tissue. This is a non-invasive
procedure, causing no discomfort to the patient, and is used to
evaluate structural, functional and hemodynamic (blood circulation)
abnormalities of the heart. There are several echocardiography
techniques that are used (two dimensional, Doppler and color flow
imaging that aid in the diagnosis of heart disease.
Peninsula
Cardiology offers Transthoracic, Stress and Contrast
Echocardiography by a nationally registered, board certified
technologist. Echocardiography can be performed during regular
office hours.
Vascular Diagnostic
Testing
Vascular Diagnostic
Testing is used to diagnose blood clots, venous insufficiency,
arterial occlusion (closing), abnormalities in the carotid artery
blood flow caused by narrowing and to evaluate trauma to the
arteries. A Vascular Ultrasound, like the Echocardiograph is a
non-invasive procedure that causes no discomfort to the
patient.
Peninsula Cardiology Associates, P.A. Vascular
Diagnostic Laboratory was among the first 1200 vascular laboratories
in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico to be granted
accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation
of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).
Accreditation status
signifies that the facility has been reviewed by an independent
agency, which recognizes the laboratory's commitment to the quality
testing for the diagnosis of vascular disease. Participation
in the accreditation process demonstrates the laboratory's concern
for high quality patient care and attention to quality
assurance.
Peninsula Cardiology Associates, P.A. performs
comprehensive testing for peripheral vascular disease using the most
current technologically advanced equipment, along with non-invasive
testing modalities. A registered technologist, who must
maintain a high level of competency as required by ICAVL, during
regular office hours, performs all studies.
